Mercy Foundation receives grant to support human trafficking prevention efforts.

ROSEBURG — CommonSpirit Mission and Ministry Fund awarded $75,478 to Mercy Foundation's Human Trafficking program, UP2USNow.

“This grant allows our task force to continue to focus on education for our community as well as supporting victims of human trafficking," Marion Pearson, violence prevention program manager, said in a news release. "This is a very real issue in Douglas County and we are very grateful for this grant.”

As human trafficking has become more prevalent, the program hopes to expand its prevention initiatives and transform awareness into action.

The program currently focuses on increasing awareness and providing tools to identify victims and survivors for law enforcement, medical and social service providers, and other industries. Mercy Foundation also has a victim advocate who can assist in accessing services and resources. Both of those activities are paid for with funds from the Oregon Department of Justice.
