ROSEBURG,OR June 6, 2018 - The Lance Michael Emmons Scholarship is dedicated to those whose lives have been enriched by music and the arts. Lance’s family, Jim and Dotty Stapleton, Jeff Randall and Kelly Lowman, created this scholarship to help make a local student’s academic dreams possible in memory of their son and brother, Lance.
This year, the family selected two scholarship recipients - all are area high school seniors continuing their education at universities majoring in music or the arts. Recently, the recipients gathered to accept their awards:
Bailey Hibbert – Attending Oregon State University to study Engineering and Music - $3,000- from Roseburg High School
Jobediah Ingram – Attending Portland State University to study Graphic Design - $1,500 from South Umpqua High School.
The Lance Michael Emmons scholarship program was started in 2011 and has awarded 18 scholarships totaling over $40,000.
“Speaking on behalf of the family, their hope is this scholarship will encourage our youth to continue their passion for the arts throughout the rest of their life and provide support as they pursue their educational goals,” states Mercy Foundation president, Lisa Platt.
From Lance’s Family: “Music has played such a huge part in all of our lives; whether it was playing the piano at home, attending concerts and shows or performing on stage. To help celebrate Lance’s love for music, our family has dedicated ourselves to helping others who feel this passion achieve their academic goals through this scholarship.”
